€ 30.000 compensation for affected parents
On December 22nd, 2020, the Dutch Cabinet discussed the final report of the parliamentary interrogation committee that investigated the childcare allowance case. The Cabinet decided that affected parents should be compensated faster and more generously.
To realize this, they took the following decisions:
- All affected parents will receive a compensation of €30.000 before May 1st, 2021.
- Parents who were disproportionately affected by strict laws will now be eligible for the most generous restoration measures. This means that they will receive full compensation for financial damages they suffered, plus an additional 25% of that amount. This restoration measure was originally meant specifically for parents who were subject to biased treatment (for example group investigations).
- Children of affected parents will be compensated too. The Cabinet will work this out in more detail later on.
- The Allowance Restoration Organisation will be extended with extra staff to speed up the restoration process.
What does this mean for you?
We are still working out the details of the Cabinet’s decisions. For example: who exactely will be eligible for the compensation of €30.000, when will they receive their compensation, and what does this mean for parents who suffered more financial damage than €30.000? We hope to provide this information on this website in the course of 2021.
